St Andrew's Church Corbridge

Choral opportunities at St Andrew's

The Choir of St Andrew's Corbridge is a friendly community of singers who enjoy singing a wide range of sacred choral music.

The choir sings at the Sunday Parish Communion service each week  and Evensong on the 4th Sunday of the month at 6.00pm It also provides music at the larger community services at Christmas and Easter and on other significant occasions such as the Remembrance Service in November, and takes part in regional events organised by the Royal School of Church music.

The choir practises on Friday evenings (7.00 p.m. – 8.30 p.m). The weekly services and practices involve hard work to achieve the standard expected, but there are also frequent social activities including visits to concerts and the traditional Choir Christmas Lunch.

The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and offers assistance to reach the various awards under the Voice for Life Scheme, which is available to both young and adult singers.

Commitment and enthusiasm are the only requirements to join the choir and membership is open to anyone in the community. Adult choir members include professional musicians and enthusiastic amateurs. Many members sing in local choral societies and other musical events. Some are unable to commit to the regular weekly services but join the choir for the larger occasions and important festivals.

The music repertoire spans a wide range from classical items of traditional musical liturgy to very recent pieces composed in a contemporary idiom.

Choir membership is open to anyone who demonstrates:

• An intuitive musical awareness with an enthusiasm to develop a basic level of sight reading and an appreciation of musical interpretation.

• A voice which is compatible with the established tone of the choir.

• Through their personality and behaviour, a commitment to working as a member of a choir dedicated to achieving the highest possible standard.

• A readiness to consistently and punctually attend the required practices and services.

• A positive attitude towards Christian worship and the choral tradition of the Church of England.

If you would like to join the choir, either as a regular singer or just for special occasions, please contact Colin Williams talk to any of the church officials.

You are very welcome to attend a Friday practice to ‘see what it is like'.
